Mobility as an Innovation System

The innovation system is understood as the totality of social, legal, economic and political conditions in which innovation takes place. This includes, on the one hand, the constellations of organisations and/or individuals involved in the generation, diffusion, adaptation and use of innovation and, on the other hand, the institutional context and regulations that govern the interactions between the actors and significantly influence the innovation outcome.

In most cases, innovation systems are complex and characterised by heterogeneous stakeholders, conflicting goals and divergent value creation logics or business practices.

Research Focus

According to this definition, mobility systems are also to be understood as innovation systems. They change in the interplay of technological, legal, political and social conditions and are significantly shaped by multi-layered, sometimes conflicting business logics and stakeholder interests.

In order to take stakeholder interests into account, they must be understood. To do this, it is necessary to research mobility needs from different perspectives and to document them in an application-oriented manner. Here, the FHStP has already created valid prerequisites through an interdisciplinary team. Ideally, it will be possible to win over selected stakeholders as multipliers of those findings that are backed up by the university's own research results. For this purpose, designated ambassadors prepare access to interest groups at the appropriate time.

Therefore, solutions and methods are needed for the conception, design and introduction of product, process and service innovations that meet the special innovation conditions of the mobility sector. This thematic focus therefore deals with issues around topics such as:

  • Understanding mobility systems as service ecosystems
  • Identification and evaluation of technology and market developments
  • Development of mobility concepts and models for mobility
  • Evaluation and conceptual design of business and operating models for mobility services
  • Ideation and prototyping of innovative technologies for the mobility services of tomorrow
  • Development of cooperation formats for research, participation and workshops
  • Research on user acceptance of mobility innovations
